Currently, not being able to find masking tape, I have a Band-Aid over my webcam. And according to FBI director James Comey, I am totally not paranoid!
Comey was recently asked at the Center for Strategic and International Studies conference whether he had tape over his computer’s camera at home.
“Heck yeah, heck yeah…And also, I get mocked for a lot of things… much mocked for that… but I hope people lock their cars […] lock your doors at night. I have an alarm system. If you have an alarm system you should use it, I use mine. It’s not crazy that the FBI Director cares about personal security as well.”
He went on to basically say that your camera is pretty vulnerable to hacking:
“I think people ought to be taking personal responsibility for their own safety and security…So there are some sensible things you ought to be doing and that’s one of them.”
Somehow, lending credence to the possibility that some rando might be spying on me just like Billy Baldwin in Sliver as I pick my teeth and read “Politico” in my underwear has not tamped down my paranoia.
