On a press tour for his new book in the “DaVinci Code” series, Origin, Dan Brown predicted the demise of organized religion and the concept of “God”—to be replaced by a type of “collective consciousness” that will be facilitated by artificial intelligence.
His remarks dovetail nicely with the subject-matter of Origin, in which “symbology” Professor Robert Langdon arrives in Spain to hear an announcement by a billionaire futurist that is supposed to “change the face of science forever.”
We will start to find our spiritual experiences through our interconnections with each other…(forecasting the emergence of) some form of global consciousness that we perceive and that becomes our divine. Our need for that exterior god, that sits up there and judges us…will diminish and eventually disappear.
Apparently he also said that AI would help make this transition…which is pretty much what a lot of these futurist peeps like Ray Kurzweil have been saying as well. It’s a hybrid of the idea of a “posthuman” society and the New Age concept of All Becoming One; and at least the latter has been pushed in the so-called secret societies that Brown has used as inspiration for the “DaVinci Code” books. (Which a tome like The Secret History Of The World—review here—gives you a “Readers Digest” version of)
And so he’s basically saying “God Is Dead” & “Long Live The New Flesh” and all that jazz…nothing new under the sun, really, but Brown is a good mass-media “packager” of that type of information. Debating the “pros” and “cons” of that type of techno-new-agey Utopia that all the cool kids have been gushing about…that’ll have to be the subject for another post!
