“Vitam Impendere Vero”
Welcome to Butterfly Language, a look at the world inside and outside my head!
Let’s just jump into it, shall we?
The RE/SEARCH books were SUCH a big influence on me in the 1990s, and so I was quite chuffed to see that they are presently being reissued.
For example, RE/SEARCH #4/5, featuring William Burroughs, Throbbing Gristle, and Brion Gysin was a titanic tome for my young bad self…at the time it came out I couldn’t afford it and would just read it at the bookstore. And now I still can’t afford it! Thank my liberal education I guess. But seriously folks, I can’t recommend this book enough if that’s the sort of scratch for your itch.
And their newest publication, available for pre-order, is Robert Anton Wilson: Beyond Conspiracy Theory, featuring a lengthy interview with Bob as well as other goodies (including apparently a photo print of the man for your rumpus room).
Anyway…there really does feel like a “renaissance” for this type of material in the general zeitgeist, and I really couldn’t think of a better time!
Speaking of which, the CIA now has an Instagram.
Their first post is a supposed picture of CIA Director Gina Haspel’s desk, with “hidden clues” you can suss out “Where’s Waldo”-style.
For instance, did you know that the clock on the desk is set to when 9/11 first happened?
Enjoy, kids! It’s the Instagram account that The Verge called “adorable,” you know it’s legit. I’m just happy I can spread the word, useful-idiot style, per my MSM-trained cliche.
But it’s fine.
While we’re still on the subject: do take a moment to check out Doug Rushkoff’s latest for Medium, “Operation Mindfuck 2.0.” It’s all about how the real Deep State & mainstream media co-opted the anti-establishment antics of the free thinkers and hippies and freaks a long time ago..but that doesn’t mean we gotta make a “new establishment” to counteract all the propaganda:
“…the value of Operation Mindfuck isn’t just the opportunity to exchange one delusion for another. It’s not about replacing the fantasy of a borderless world with that of a walled nation-state or that of a free-market jungle with communism, but seeing all of them as extreme, ideological endpoints. These are reality tunnels — perceptual limitations and conceptual frameworks, shaped by our experiences and prejudices. None of them can be understood as absolute. But at the same time, we have to remember that some of these tunnels are a whole lot closer to reality than others. It’s up to us to choose the most constructive and compassionate ones to inhabit.”
(read my “Reality Trilogy” for more on reality tunnels and the pros and cons thereof)
Do you like ASMR? I kinda like ASMR. Especially the more abstract stuff, just like people chopping up kinetic sand into countless perfect cubes and shit like that.
But, just like any fad, ASMR has morphed into all SORTS of weird bordering-on-wank-material types of content. Case in point: ASMR of your favorite pop-culture characters whispering sweet nothings in your ear. It’s fan-fiction meets near-erotic hypnosis & thank god for it!
Now, this video features a dude doing a dead-on perfect Heath Ledger Joker impression—I mean, really fucking good. And he basically reads all of the Joker’s lines from The Dark Knight. How can this all possibly be relaxing? Well…you’d be surprised.
But nothing tops this vid of Loki ASMR-ing aforementioned sweet nothings in your aural cavity. Since when did Loki become Hugh-fucking-Grant? I don’t know, but if you’re shipping the character this might be a late-night treat.
Finally, I do have to recommend the videos of Ephemeral Rift on YouTube, who has turned this LARPing/ASMR pop-culture-referencey thing into an absolute art. It’s well-shot, it’s well-acted, it’s well-scripted…and it’s as WEIRD as fucking hell! In the midst of it all, he’s actually got quite a few thoughtful things to say, so…a lot to unpack, if that’s that’s YOUR **THING**.
Oh, and before I forget…do check out Seallion’s (Jake Kotze’s) latest video, too:
It’s got it ALL, a veritable synchromystic symphony for the sense featuring Dark Phoenix, Joker, Game of Thrones, River Phoenix, Emma Watson, and the 1979 Disney movie The Black Hole.
…aaaand I think that’s it for now, folks. Remember to keep your feet on the ground and your head in the stars and your hand on your wallet and your other hand probably on your phone or the bannister.
