Better Call Paul: The Mystery of the “Winged Beatle”

“…the accepted myth involves the premature death of a youth who is transformed by death into a god. This is a prevalent theme from Osiris and Achilles to Jesus Christ.”
–R. Gary Patterson, “The Walrus Was Paul”

“I’m not the phony—THEY are!”
–Saul Cartwright, “Batman” #222

We’re going to discuss now one of the key pop-culture conspiracy theories of the 20th Century…the supposed death and replacement of Beatle Paul McCartney. It is the Rosetta Stone for so many other celebrity doppelgänger folktales (up to “Dave Chappelle’s Clone” in the present day).

Ruminations By A Rogue Insect On The Possibility Of Evolution

little-man.jpg
A tremendous amount of conspiracy lore focuses on the idea that there is an inhuman cabal of evil who has plotted since the dawn of time to overthrow good Christians everywhere. It’s not always Christians placed in the metaphorical lions den here…but it’s often Christians, or some other very traditional and conservative culture.

In this cosmology, human beings are the very pinnacle of God’s creation here on Earth, the end-point in a divine plan. There is no creature on earth as important or developed than man.

Is The “Devil Horns” Hand Gesture Evil?

Some conspiracy theorists insist that the so-called “devil horns” hand gesture, which has been seen used by scores of celebrities, politicians, and other public figures, is supposed to represent allegiance to Satan. “Would you offer violence to a well intentioned virus on its slow road to symbiosis?”
–William S. Burroughs, “The Electronic Revolution”

I’m going to talk about a topic that is largely anchored in matters of biology, but will at some point take a sharp left turn into the esoteric.

Hidden Wizards: The Power Of Napoleon Hill and Norman Vincent Peale

sxewqxqsx.jpg

“I received strange orders from a strange source.”
–Napoleon Hill

Two of the most popular self-improvement books of all time are Norman Vincent Peale’s The Power Of Positive Thinking (1952) and Napoleon Hill’s Think And Grow Rich (1937). In a modern world filled with inspirational works claiming to having found The Secret and The Power of Now, outwardly claiming to provide wisdom from possible extra-dimensional entities, and so on—the works of Peale and Hill seem, to a degree, antiquated and somewhat “square.”
