John Wick 3 Trailer & The Matrix Parallels

So in Spring of 2019 the Keanu Reeves starrer John Wick 3 will debut—about 20 years after 1999’s The Matrix.

As was the case with The Matrix, we are all on the edge of a new era—2020. That Y2K “Doomsday” feeling isn’t quite there with this date, but there still is a vague nervous anticipation in the air. And certainly, our society—on the fringes, but also, to an extent, within the pop-culture of the masses—have fully absorbed the (Gnostic) idea of living in a false reality of sorts that was the crux of the film.

Truth In The Trash: The Deeper Meaning Of “The Nice Guys”

“So you’re telling me you made a porno where the plot is the point?”
–Holland March, “The Nice Guys”

The Nice Guys is a 2016 movie directed by Shane Black and starring Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe. Taking place in the late 1970s, it’s an action-comedy about a murder conspiracy centering around a porn movie. Hovering over the proceedings are various icons of the time, including Richard Nixon—but of course these ultimately contain parallels to the current era. 11.19.17: The Limits Of Altruism

I have a habit of picking up various invertebrates that are wandering in the middle of the sidewalk and placing them on safer ground. Snails, caterpillars, even earthworms. I am sorry to say that have not brought myself to be able to try this with slugs yet, because they are too sticky (after a good rainfall in my neighborhood is like a slug massacre).

I pick up these creatures because I cannot bear the thought of a big shoe crushing the bejesus out of them. I feel I am doing these little creatures a big solid, by helping them out like that.

But am I really?

11.8.17: 2 Real Man

I don’t write a whole lot about current conspiracies anymore because I’m actually so creeped out that a bunch have recently been shown to have some credence to them.

When they were just a LARP, you know, it was kind of exciting to just hunker down and get super paranoid and clever. But even though we seem to be in  a period of unprecedented disclosure and confirmation on a lot of shit…you know, for every action there is a reaction.

11.6.17: Desensitization

And so we have this shooting at a Sutherland Springs church—one of the worst church shootings in American history (also, we now have an active sub-category of mass shootings called “church shootings”). 27 dead. On the same day, and in the same state (Texas), as the Fort Hood shooting of 2009, in which 13 people died.

How long will the vast majority of the American public keep their attention on this tragedy—much less even remember it at all outside of listicles—a few weeks from now?

9.23.17: The World Didn’t End And All I Got Was This Lousy T-Shirt

I have written on this topic several times now, but always tend to wait until the latest Apocalypse has been “averted”—this saves me the possible humiliation of having the world actually end and me being perhaps wrong. The latest EotW (End of the World) date was September 23, 2017, connected with an astrological alignment and Biblical verses.

Somehow, Nibiru—a fabled “rogue planet” that some tie in with the relatively recent discovery of “Planet Nine”—got involved. Then crazy shit started interrupting broadcasts in Orange County—apocalyptic messages telling scared listeners that “extremely violent times will come.” So: crazy stuff happening recently.
