“Nexus Dawn” And The Faustian Bargain

hlhlj.jpg

If you do have a chance & are interested in that kind of stuff, do check out the 6-minute “short film” prequel to Blade Runner 2049, “Nexus Dawn.” Outside of it being kinda cool, it does speak to this tension between our need to expand our technology and the danger of unwittingly (for some peeps, probably wittingly) creating a “post-human” society.

Jared Leto plays this ultra-creepy replicant (robot/AI) manufacturer of replicants, Niander Wallace, and he basically offers the Powers That Be a whole bunch of replicants even though they have become illegal.

Has NASA Made It Easier For Aliens To Invade Earth?

alien-map-finger.jpg

This is a sensationalistic headline, to be sure—but when we consider that no less a formidable mind as Stephen Hawking has warned us that life on other worlds just might be “rapacious marauders roaming the cosmos in search of resources to plunder, and planets to conquer and colonise,” maybe not that sensationalistic.

National Geographic explores the possibility that the map to Earth etched into the twin Voyager spacecraft might lead aliens right to our front door. You see, they were launched in the late 1970s, and by now both are in the outer-reaches of our solar system and beyond.

Getting Clear On What The New Aeon Is And Is Not

ioyoiyou.jpg

Sometimes, I get intuitions on things. Sometimes, I don’t wholly agree with the intuitions that I get. But I listen to them anyway. I give them a fighting chance to get through my discernment.

And so one of the powerful sort of intuitions I had last week involved what the “New Age”—the new Aeon—is, and what it isn’t. And I really didn’t “like” it. But it sort of made sense anyway, even from a non-esoteric point of view.

Are You Prepared For The Coming Space Economy?

hljhlj.jpg

Mining for rare metals and gases on asteroids has the potential to be “highly disruptive” to the world’s economy, Goldman Sachs Group Inc. analysts have recently concluded. Bringing back the incredibly valuable stores of resources like platinum back to Earth would “crater the market for metal” back home.

Earthers Vs. Offworlders

hippie-vs-spaceman.jpg
whose side are you on???

Don’t let anybody tell you that we’re gonna get on rocketships and live on Mars—this is our home.
—Al Gore, “An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth To Power”

Just a quick thought I had after watching the trailer for An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth To Power, and it leads into this growing trend I’m sensing called “Earthers Vs. Offworlders.” It goes like this:

You know all those Republicans and other conservative/corporate types who say they don’t believe in global warming? I think only a very small percentage of them actually don’t believe in it. These people are many things…but stupid is not one of them. I think most of them do believe in it…but feel that things are too far gone to be worth investing in fixing.

Jeff Bezos Plans To Put Independent Bookstores Out Of Business On The Moon

moon-amazon-delivery.jpg

Just because you are slowly-deteriorating clone stuck in a mining colony on the moon doesn’t mean you shouldn’t get your Amazon packages.

So Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos has created a plan, which he’s shopping around now to NASA and the White House, to have a shipping system go back-and-forth from the Earth to the moon by the mid-2020s. These cargo missions would function…sort of like Amazon. You know, you get your food, medical supplies, equipment, bulk-rate cat treats, and etc.
