Instant Replay Part 1: June Moon

june-moon.jpg

Note: In June of 2018, I temporarily ceased blogging on Butterfly Language and continued on a separate site, Instant Replay. In deference to my completist nature, here are those posts. There might be some content that I later “remixed” elsewhere on this blog, but I kind of like the “narrative” the posts as a whole tell about that little slice of my life.

In this part you’ll be introduced to both Skippy, the Bastard Stepson Of Eris, and the persuasive power of Strategic Delusion™ (which I invented). This is a series of three articles/mini-essays on the possible subjective nature of Reality, and how such a condition may cause any number of problems.

You may disagree with some my assessments here, which is fine; after all, they are only a few of what is an infinite number of valid possibilities. Or not.

Whatever works.

jerry-maguire-cult.jpg

I’d like to talk about the concept of the Joke Religion—something created by you, somebody you know, or somebody you know once-removed—that is utilized to ridicule traditional religion, some pop-culture thing thought to be banal, or both.

Half our online culture seems to be proudly a Joke Religion. A tongue-in-cheek sacredness and meaning is invested in the the cheap and tawdry. What author Philip K. Dick might have referred to as “the trash.”
