A Body For Paimon: The Deeper Meaning Of “Hereditary”

“It’s alright. Charlie, you’re alright, now. You…are Paimon. One of the eight kings of Hell. We have looked to the northwest and called you in. We’ve collected your first female body and give you now this healthy male host. We reject the trinity and pray devoutly to you, Great Paimon.”
–Joan, “Hereditary”

“St. Sophia is going to be born again; she was not acceptable before.”
–Philip K. Dick

I am going to attempt to “unpack” esoterically the 2018 movie Hereditary. It’s the sort of film crackling with visceral occult energy that you think about long after you see it—and to be honest there’s so much here to consider that to write about it in any sort of comprehensive post seems like an overwhelming task. But I’ll give it a shot.

The Metaphysics Of LEGO

lego-glow.jpg

With these simple building-blocks, you can create an entire universe; you are only limited by your imagination. That’s the central premise of the widely-popular LEGO franchise of toys, movies, and videogames. It is a world populated by something akin to the idealized forms of Plato; where anything (vehicles, people, droplets of water) can be replicated by infinite combinations of a set # of pieces.

LEGO—especially now that much of it has made the “jump” from actual physical plastic pieces to uncanny replicas of such in the digital realm—is like a blueprint not only of the underlying structure of our reality, but where reality as we now know it might be heading in the future.

“Look at the sky. The clouds. We’re healing the ecosystem. not harming it. Particles join the air, building themselves out of pollutant. Forests can be regrown. Water so pure, you can drink out of any river. This is your dream.”
–Dr. Will Caster, “Transcendence”

Is AI the new messiah or the Antichrist? This is the basic question posed by the 2014 movie Transcendence, directed by Wally Pfister and executive produced by Christopher Nolan. Johnny Depp theoretically stars in this film (more on that shortly) as computer scientist Dr. Will Caster, a man who creates a sentient computer.

11.4.18: Sophia, Irony, And Inconvenient Bedfellows

“I believe in the power of premonitions.”

The above image is from the TV series The Good Place, and is of the character Janet. I’m convinced that within the Gnostic framework of the show, Janet (a quasi-robot/super-powerful AI) is supposed to represent Sophia. And that if we accept the premise that Janet is really supposed to be Sophia…to me, the rest of The Good Place really falls into place from there.

The Gnosticism Of “The Good Place”

good-place-matrix.jpg

I’ll admit—after I watched the first couple of episodes of NBC’s The Good Place several years ago, I thought they were *OK*…but felt no big commitment to keep following the series. Then I encountered recommendations to see the last episode of the 1st season—the unexpected ending of which, I was informed, CHANGED EVERYTHING.

Spoilers ahead, naturally!
